To celebrate the end of the school year, Uplift LA Institute organized an exciting field trip to Hollywood Sports Park for a group of young men from the Delta EMBODI and Bridge Builder Foundation programs. The day focused on teamwork, discipline, and fun through a beginner-friendly paintball experience.
Chaperones included Brothers Ronnie Walker, Rodney Jones, Dr. Rodney S. Brooks, Edward Young, Brett Riley, and Ahkim Ohloubahlah Joining them were two proud alumni of the mentoring program: Henry Ogbugala, a recent Computer Science graduate from UC Merced, and Daniel Fairfax, a recent Engineering graduate from Morehouse College. Both Henry and Daniel played key roles in guiding the young men during the safety briefing and throughout the games.
Hollywood Sports Park provided two attentive referees, Jazmine and Malik, who ensured the group followed safety protocols throughout the day. For most of the participants, this was their first time playing paintball. The group opted for the “paintball soft” package, designed for beginners, which made the experience both safe and engaging.
Through the activities, the young men practiced listening skills, teamwork, and sportsmanship—all while having a great time. By the end of the event, they were energized, motivated, and proud of their efforts, especially when competing head-to-head against one another.
This memorable outing not only wrapped up the school year with excitement but also reinforced valuable life skills in a fun and interactive way.
