The Uplift LA Institute is a non-profit organization that serves the community of Compton and the greater Los Angeles area. Our focus will be on mentoring at-risk youth, career and resume training for adults, and host programs that focus on the welfare of the families in the community.
Our Programs
Talent Hunt
This program is an event in February. We contact students under the age of 18 in the
Los Angeles area and host talent show that provides exposure, encouragement and financial
assistance to talented young people participating in the Performing Arts. Winners of the competition
are awarded recognition for their talents.
The High School Essay Contest and Workshop
We host workshops at middle school and high school students who want to improve in their writing. We run this program from August Through
October to help students with their college entrance essays. Students can enter an essay contest
and win prizes. The criteria for winning are word count, organization of thought, grammar, and the
essay has a strong overall effect with clear communication and support. The winning papers are chosen by a
committee of volunteers who run the program.
Blood Drive
In June, we host a blood drive and clothes drive in the Compton Area. We
encourage, and promote health scans, as well as other businesses to come out to a central location
venture in undeserved communities. Some of the programs under the umbrella of Blood Drive are
the AIDS/HIV Awareness, and the American Diabetes Association Partnership.
Fatherhood Initiative
The goal of the Fatherhood Initiative event is to support the professional and parenting development, of
fathers and build healthy communities through fatherhood engagement strategies. Currently, Itis an annual event held on
the Campus of USC, where extremely knowledgeable and gifted speakers and presenters from a
variety of professions provide uplifting and informational speeches as well as educational and
engaging workshops to conference attendees, all to encourage and support
fathers, aiding them to be the best dads they can be for children and families.
Mentoring Program
Our Mentoring programs provide a wide range of skill training for our mentees that provide
organized sports, adult after school programs and summer camps for our mentees.
